As legislative sessions begin in many states across the nation, there is a flurry of activity around health reform implementation, including Medicaid expansion. In many states, reports are coming out analyzing costs and benefits of the expansion. Governors and legislators are staking out positions. Some have been surprising. We now have four Republican governors coming out in favor of Medicaid expansion, most recently Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona. The others are in North Dakota, New Mexico, and Nevada. Maybe this is a sign that in some quarters, pragmatism may be taking over from politics.
